Growing up in Brazil as childhood friends, Lucio Morais and Yuri Chix shared just about everything: likes, dislikes, even their favorite foods. However it wasn't until 2005 when they discovered their mutual passion: music. While students in University, the two became known for gathering the entire student body on the dancefloor of São Pauloʼs legendary, now-defunct club, AmpGalaxy. This local fame became the driving force behind a wholly unique creation — a live DJ act with original beats and production, known as Database.

As a duo, Database released their first compilation, Uglyedits Vol.1 in early 2008, coinciding with an invitation to remix Fatboy Slim, along with an appearance on his label, Southern Fried Records, to release their debut Miami EP, featuring a collaboration with baile funk icons Bonde do Role. Building on their repetoire, Database’s notoriety grew rapidly in their native Brazil, as the duo took to touring the country’s music festival circuit. 2009 saw the release of Uglyedits Vol. 2, along with taking home DJ Mag Brasil’s award for Best Brazilian Producers. Lighting the fire for ongoing momentum, Database linked with New York dance rockers French Horn Rebellion for a project called “Beaches and Friends” that set Database onto an international stage.

In 2010, the single caught fire and the whirlwind media response to "Beaches & Friends" was enormous, garnering radio support from the likes of BBC Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac on the nighttime playlists, Nick Grimshaw in the daytime, and Jaymo & Andy George giving Database the spotlight on the hallowed “In New DJs We Trust” program. In addition to sparking press frenzy, the single spawned myriad remixes, shattering records and convincingly staying perched atop the Hype Machine charts for weeks on end, unheard of for its time, along with earning Database a nomination with MTV Brazil for Best Brazilian Electronic Artist at the 2010 VMBs. Following the windfall of media attention, the duo hit the road once more for a series of years, with no looking back.

With their September 2011 release of the New Disco EP, via French label and design icons Kitsuné Maison Music, the group again demonstrated their propensity to create wildly original and entertaining music-to-move-to with deft ease, releasing a work aongside a roster boasting the likes of Mehdi and Justice at their peak.

Touring extensively following the release, Database caught the eye of Mark Ronson and The Business Int’l, along with releasing a second collaboration with French Horn Rebellion in 2012, called “Poster Girl,” itself earning massive acclaim from a Hype Machine #1 to coverage from Rolling Stone and Jay-Z on his personal blog.

Following a performance at Lollapalooza Brasil in 2013, the duo took a much needed break to return to the studio and reconnect with their musical influences, resulting in a wealth of entirely original productions that show both a connection to Database’s original disco and electro-flavored influences, as well as a forward-minded maturation and commentary of current trends in techno and house music. 2015 looks to be the year Database does it all again, this time on an even larger scale.
